Bridgehampton High School is proud to announce that seniors Ayanna El and Grace Turza have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Class of 2022.
Ayanna’s high school résumé includes taking nine Advanced Placement, honors and college-level courses. She is a member of the Bridgehampton Marimba Ensemble, Council of Young Adults, Friends of Rachel Club, Future Farmers of America, Genders and Sexualities Alliance, National Honor Society, Oceanography Club, Robotics Club, Student Council and is involved in Bridgehampton’s own Sprouts Farmstand. Ayanna is an outstanding varsity volleyball player and was honored with both a Suffolk Zone Award and a Thomas Cutinella Memorial Foundation Service Award. In school, she has been honored with placement on the High Honor Roll and with the John Niles Award and Perfect Attendance Award. She is looking to study psychology in college and become a teen counselor/therapist.
Ayanna cites her greatest high school accomplishment as becoming valedictorian. “After working hard for all four years of high school, being valedictorian is very rewarding,” she said. “I always knew being number one in my class was something I wanted, and I worked really hard to get here.”
Grace has also taken numerous AP, honors and college-level courses in her high school career. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council, where she serves both organizations as secretary this year. She is co-treasurer of the Culture Club and volunteers as a teaching assistant for the grades 4 and 5 coding classes. She was named a 2022 National Association of Plant Breeders Borlaug Scholar and has received numerous outstanding achievement awards since her sophomore year.
“I am excited and proud that my hard work has resulted in such an incredible honor,” Grace said. “My greatest accomplishment is being named the salutatorian for the Class of 2022. This experience has taught me that you can only accomplish your goals by working for them.”
Grace plans to major in history in college for her undergraduate degree and looks to further her education by eventually attending law school.
