Our Peace Pole

The Bridgehampton School community gathered to celebrate peace, unity and global understanding during a special Peace Pole Ceremony held on campus on May 29. The event brought together students, staff, community members and representatives from the Southampton Rotary Club to recognize the installation of the Peace Pole, a symbol of hope and a commitment to peace around the world.
The Peace Pole was placed near the memorial bench dedicated to Nancy Bagshaw, a beloved Bridgehampton School educator whose impact on students, colleagues and the wider community continues to be deeply felt. Widely remembered as a warm, enthusiastic educator, she inspired generations of students through her kindness, dedication and commitment to helping others. Beyond the classroom, she was involved in the local community and was recognized for fostering understanding, compassion and connection among those around her. The placement of the Peace Pole near her memorial bench serves as a fitting tribute to the values she championed throughout her life and career.
Several speakers shared remarks during the ceremony, including Southampton Rotary members Paul Cassella and Rosanne Cassella; Kevin Mann; Bridgehampton School Interact Club advisor Hamra Ozsu; Interact Club student member Julissa Bonilla; and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brigid Collins. Each speaker highlighted the importance of kindness, service and working together to create a more peaceful community.
The ceremony also featured performances by the Bridgehampton School Choir and the Marimba Band, whose music helped commemorate the occasion and celebrate the spirit of unity. As part of the event, students placed colorful pinwheels for peace around the campus, creating a visual display of their hopes for a more peaceful world. Following the ceremony, attendees gathered for ice cream and refreshments generously donated by the Southampton Rotary Club.
The Peace Pole serves as a lasting reminder of the community's commitment to fostering respect, understanding and peace both locally and globally. The installation provides a permanent symbol of peace and a gathering place for reflection. Through the collaborative efforts of students, educators and community partners, the ceremony provided an opportunity to reflect on the power of service, compassion and connection.
